Scenario to Stage Improvisation Workshop - Michael J. Gellman

Picture
Friday (October 3) 11:00am-6:00pm (1 hour total of break time)
$125 (Audit $35)

From Comedia del Arte to Mike Leigh, Christopher Guest and Larry David, improvisation from scenario is how we will make a living in the craft we love. In this intensive workshop participants will explore the techniques early improvisers used to create improvised scenario-based one-act plays for the theater. The work will focus on both the long form methods described in the book, Process: An Improviser’s Journey as well as new applications developed by The Process Theater Group in Chicago. By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed theater pieces that will be performed in class.

Limit: 16 Students

Requirements: AND Master Retreat or Per4mance New York (comparable to UCB/PIT/Magnet Level 4), or 4-Year Theater Degree or Equivalent Theater or Improvisation Experience.

Saturday (October 4) 10:00am-1:00pm

Character is at the heart of every improvisation. In this workshop participants will gain and practice tools to develop authentic characters and explore ways to apply them to any “improv” form. We will explore techniques used at Second City and The Process group to create theater for performance. The  actors will be encouraged to explore their own potential for creating character, improvisational performance and scene  creation. The workshop experience will apply to the participants’ improvisation, performance, text work and auditions.

Limit: 16 Students

Requirements: Regular Attendance at AND’s Improv Programs (comparable to UCB/PIT/Magnet Level 2), or Equivalent Improvisation or Theater Experience
