Centralia
Friday, May 25th, 2012 – 9:30 PM
Centralia are a bold, 3-man (and a musician) Manhattan-based improv group, who blow the doors off of what's “legal” in spontaneous performance. They're also musical and fun for the whole family.
Centralia (formerly Burn Manhattan) were born in 1996 out of an election-related sketch show from the group's Second City improv roots. The group morphed into Centralia in 2004 and have sold out shows at all the hippest underground NYC improv, theater and comedy joints ever since. They've also delighted and stunned audiences at clubs and colleges around the country. Every member is an improv teacher and they've taught with Second City, at Fordham University, Yale, Hampshire College, Brooklyn College, for Fortune 500 companies and at the People's Improv Theatre. Check out Centralia on Video here. [Centralia photo by: Tracy Wilson]

Michelin
Saturday, May 26th - 8:00 PM
Ever wonder what an improv show would look like, with realistic and fun man/woman theatrical tension? And by realistic and fun we mean, “Have I been watching a show all this time because I can’t tell; this seems real. It seems like I’m watching a real situation between these two and although it’s entertaining, it’s making me feel a little awkward but these are really attractive people, so I think I’ll stay and be a voyeur.”

Mike Brown Solo Improv Extravaganza
Thursday, May 24, 9:30PM/Saturday, May 26, 7:00PM
Let's be honest. The Mike Brown Solo Improv Extravaganza is pretty much like other improv troupe that you'll discover along life's path...with one exception: the show is completely improvised by one person. That's right, improv fans! An entire improv troupe has just been reduced to a single person, which means that all characters discovered in the scene are portrayed through the eyes of one improviser. In addition, the show is presented in a monoscene format so that each moment holds a little bit more gravity than the last and the context remains intact.
The show started in 2009 when a small group of Mike's friends planted the thought of doing a solo improv show in his head. After successfully testing it out at The P.I.T.'s "Improdome" in NYC, Mike continued playing with this form around New York, as well as various clubs throughout the United States, until the "Mike Brown Solo Improv Extravaganza" was conceived and a new genre was reinvented.
Mike has made appearances on television's Gossip Girl, Law & Order, Cupid, and Mercy; and has performed in the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, the Del Close Marathon and the Toronto Improv Festival.

Nobody’s Token
Saturday, May 26th – 7:00 PM
Nobody's Token was born out of a desire to showcase a collection of some of the most talented African American improv comedians and writers in New York. Keisha Zollar and Robert King, who had both been performing improv comedy in New York since 2003, founded Nobody’s Token in 2009. They gathered a group of actors and writers from varied performing backgrounds, including The People's Improv Theatre, Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, NBC, College Humor, Super Deluxe, and Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, to create a live improvised show and to develop material for web/televised programming. Nobody’s Token performs monthly at The Peoples Improv Theatre, along with their sister group North Coast. Nobody’s Token has also performed in several festivals, including The North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival (DSI), the Baltimore and Boston improv fests, the Del Close Marathon, SketchProv (PIT), Up The Creek Improv Camp (The Creek), and more. Nobody's Token creates memorable characters and wacky situations nightly, in fun environments that have never been seen before. Borrowing from your favorite sitcom plots and situations, NBT creates a brand new comedy show for audiences raised on The Cosby Show and Fresh Prince of Bel Air. They welcome you to revel with wacky neighbors, lovable loser dads, smart-aleck kid sisters, and all your favorite sitcom friends. www.nobodystoken.com / www.facebook.com/nobodystoken

North Coast
Thursday, May 24th – 8:00 PM
Now that the East Coast/West Coast beef has subsided, North Coast is stepping up to throw down. Watch as New York's only freestyle rapping, beatboxing, long-form improv team performs a fully improvised "hip-hopera" right in front of yo mouf. You bring your favorite rap lyric and North Coast will make your gut bust and your head bop. And if you don't know, now you know.
“Seeing this show will be a lot like seeing a full-length play but instead of Romeo & Juliet, it’s Eminem & Nicki Minaj – and on top of their amazing rap skills, North Coast is incredibly funny. Comedy fans and hip-hop fans alike should check this out." - Maile Shoul, ImprovBoston North Coast website / North Coast on Twitter / North Coast on Facebook
Cast: Jonathan DeMuth, Boris Khaykin, Oscar Montoya, Rachel Rosenthal, Douglass Widick, Julia Morales, Shuan Fisher, and James Robilotta

OUR TOWN
Wednesday, May 23rd – 8:00 PM
OUR TOWN is a show similar in many ways to the play of the same name by Thornton Wilder; except it’s all made up, it’s probably a little more boring, and there’s no ladders. (The original staged production of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” had a ladder motif. It was cool.) Improvisers create the world of a town while a visual artist maps out this world on a very large canvass.
Cast: Tamsi New, BJ Thorne, Matt Kaplan, Meredith Hackman, Adam Howard, Rosie Whalen, Stephen Keeley, and Jo Firestone, with special guest artist Joey Korein.

STEELE/QUINN
Thursday, May 24th – 7:00 PM
STEELE/QUINN sounds like a lady cop show but it’s twice as bad-ass! It’s lady two-prov from New York City featuring Lorie Steele and Elizabeth Quinn. Their brand of improv is both classically theatrical and clownihly absurd. STEELE/QUINN creates characters and worlds that take you on a journey of misfits and mayhem.

The Raving Jaynes
Wednesday, May 23rd – 7:00 PM
The Raving Jaynes: Improvised Dance Theater, is a highly physical improv group that creates spontaneous theater for intimate spaces. Movement, text and sound are woven, smashed and twisted together to transform what waits in the empty space into sweaty stories. The performers interact with the audience and the space itself to discover the impulses unique to the moment and create a piece of “one-time-only” dance/theater.

YES&
Friday May 25th, 2012 – 8:00 PM
YES& is Artistic New Directions’ very own improv ensemble. Born from Scotty Watson’s Workshops with a gathering of Michael Gellman adherents, the Ensemble’s first performance was as part of AND’s Eclectic Evening of Shorts V, wherein they improvised a new short play each performance while changing sets for the scripted works. What? Uh hun! Five two-minute scenes spaced between 6 scripted pieces, culminating in a rousing tie-it-all-together final 10 minute improvised scene. Way cool.....
